About us

KLeiN was developed in 2023 and 2024 by the Interdisciplinary Emergency Medicine research group of the Department of Emergency Medicine in collaboration with the Neurocognition in Aging research group of the Department of Neurology at Jena University Hospital .

It is designed for rapid screening for cognitive impairment in the emergency department, where longer tests are not practical. It is explicitly not intended to replace more comprehensive cognitive test batteries or other brief tests such as the MMSE or MoCA.

Although KLeiN is suitable for testing adults of all ages (18 years and older), it was specifically developed for people over the age of 65. Its primary focus is identifying cognitive impairment as a predictor of developing delirium.
